Feeling Stressed? What Do You Do….

What do you do when you:

Feel Overwhelmed, stressed-out and just plain ‘ole tired?  And, you just don’t feel like dealing with life anymore.  Don’t give up!  Take action.  Life isn’t going to stop because we don’t feel like taking care of  our business or home.  It will continue without us and put us even farther behind the curve.

Make the decision to do something that will make a difference today.  Keep your priorities in check because you never know when life will take a turn and you will wish that you had not procrastinated.  Time won’t stand still while you wait for someone else to do what needs to be done.

Here is what I do:

First, I have to consider am I just being lazy and don’t “feel” like doing anything.  Am I just making excuses.  Or is there a reason that I physically don’t or can’t do anything today.  If my reason is that I just “don’t wanna”, that is just an excuse and not acceptable.  There is Always something that needs to get done.  Life requires you to be organized – to a certain degree.  If you don’t file paperwork, you won’t be able to find anything.  Things that don’t have a home and just get stacked higher and higher can quickly become a hoarder-type situation with piles and piles.  Once I have determined that it is simply that I would rather NOT do something,  I just decide to do it…whether I’d like to or not!

Second, now that I have come to the realization that; even though I don’t Want to do anything, I really NEED to do something it is time to take action.  After all, procrastination won’t accomplish anything!  So what I have to decide is – what are the most important things that need to get done?  What will make a difference today?  And what if…I took just a few hours to spend on this task.  How will it make me feel?

Third, ignore others.  Lots of times, we don’t take action because “no one else is, so why should I?”  This is such a childish excuse.  When this happens, be the Action-Taker.  It gives a feeling of satisfaction when you accomplish goals.  Of course, it would be great to have other people help, but that doesn’t always happen.  So, don’t allow their attitude to affect your attitude.  Decide to take action, with or without anyone else.

Fourth, set aside a certain amount of time to work on projects.  Have a start and finish time in your mind and if it doesn’t take that long, that is great!  If it does and you still aren’t done, make a decision to stop when you run out of time.  There are no clear cut rules about what you have to do and how long you have to do it to get organized, but you do have to do Something!  Doing nothing accomplishes nothing.

Fifth, do something for yourself.  Treat yourself to a cold drink, 15 minutes of some rest and relaxation – or more if you need.  You don’t have to spend all day working on a project, unless you really want to.  You are the person in charge of your time and how and what you do with it.  Don’t blame others for what is, ultimately, your responsibility.

Take action today.
